Effects of Use of Information Devices on Depression Among Older Adults: The Mediating Effects of Community Environment

|
This study is to verify the mediating effect of the community environment on the effect of the elderly’s use of information devices on depression based on the stress process model. For this purpose, the analysis was conducted using the data of the elderly survey conducted by the Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs in 2020. The SPSS statistical program was used for data analysis, and descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis were performed as the analysis method, and the analysis method of Baron and Kenny(1986) was used to verify the mediating effect. As a result, the community environment was found to be a partial medium in the relationship between the use of information devices and depression of the elderly. In other words, it was confirmed that the use of information devices by the elderly not only directly affects depression, but also indirectly affects depression through the community environment. Based on these research results, practical implications for successful old age in the digital era, limitations of this study, and future research directions were discussed.
